WriteUp (“we,” “us,” or “our”) respects the privacy of all users, including students, teachers, and schools. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our website, app, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). By using WriteUp, you agree to the practices described in this policy.


1. INformation we Collect

We collect the following types of information:

Account Information When you create an account, we may collect your name, email address, school or class affiliation, and other necessary registration details.

Writing and Usage Data We collect the writing, feedback, and activity you create within WriteUp to: Provide and improve our writing tools; Understand how students use our product to make it more effective; Maintain system performance and security.

We do not sell, publish, or share individual writing content or personally identifiable information.

Technical InformationWe may collect device, browser, and usage data such as: IP address, Device type and operating system, and Time spent using features. This helps us improve stability and performance of the Service.

2. How we use Data

We use collected information to: Operate and improve the WriteUp platform, develop better writing tools and educational features, provide support and respond to inquiries, communicate updates, feature changes, and account information, and ensure system security and compliance with our Terms of Service.

All data analysis is conducted internally and used only to improve our tools — never for advertising or resale.

3. How we protect Student Data

We take data protection seriously. All personal and writing data is stored securely using encryption and industry-standard safeguards. We limit employee access to only what is required to support and maintain the Service. We will never sell or disclose writing data or personal information to third parties. WriteUp complies with: FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) Relevant U.S. data protection laws for educational technology providers.

4. Data Retention

We retain user data only as long as necessary to operate the Service or as required by law. Teachers or administrators may request deletion of student data at any time by contacting us at support@writeuplearning.com.

When an account is deleted, all personal and writing data associated with it will be permanently removed from our active systems within a reasonable period.

5. Sharing of Information

We do not sell or rent any user data.

We may share limited, non-identifiable data with trusted service providers who help operate WriteUp (e.g., hosting or analytics), but only under strict confidentiality agreements. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or system integrity.

6. Use by Schools and teachers

Teachers and schools may create accounts for students under 18, provided they comply with applicable parental consent laws. WriteUp acts as a data processor on behalf of schools, processing student data solely for educational purposes.

7. Student WRiting and Ai tools

WriteUp may analyze anonymized or aggregated writing data to improve our writing analysis tools and feedback algorithms. We never sell or publicly share this data, and no personally identifiable writing samples are used outside our internal research.

8. Your Rights and Choices

You may request: Access to your personal data, Correction of inaccurate information, and deletion of your account and associated data
